Chiropractic Treatment

Chiropractic treatment differs in its approach to health from traditional medical care. Medical treatment is aimed at affecting the body with drugs and surgery to get it to conform to statistical norms.

Chiropractors generally view the body as a self-repairing system that will properly maintain itself without much outside intervention (drugs or surgery) if given the correct diet, exercise, and a nervous system able to freely communicate messages from the brain to the rest of the body.

Chiropractic treatment encompasses a wide range of services geared toward helping the body maintain itself and repair itself if the normal healthy balance is interrupted from stress, injury, or neglect.

First class chiropractic treatments begin with a complete and thorough case history geared toward your general state of health as well as focusing on the problem you are currently experiencing which is referred to as your “chief complaint”. Once your case history is recorded, a thorough examination is performed including a neurologic examination of your motor and sensory status, a range of motion examination of your spinal area of complaint and any joint associated with your complaint, and palpation of the soft tissues involved in your problem.

For example, if you have a shoulder complaint an examination would be done of the shoulder joint, the neck or cervical spine, the muscles of the shoulder and neck, and possibly the elbow or upper portion of the back or thoracic spine. All areas of your body that relate to your problem are examined and evaluated.

Orthopedic testing is performed in an effort to recreate your pain or problem and is a means of determining whether or not your problem is limited to a specific joint, an area of the spine, whether it is muscular, or ligament, or tendon in origin. Orthopedic tests place stress on tissues of the body and are meant to recreate the pain so that its root cause can be diagnosed.

Once an accurate diagnosis is made a treatment plan tailored to your specific condition can be created and treatment started. Depending on the nature of your condition physical therapy modalities such as ice, heat, electric muscle stimulation, interferential current, ultrasound, and massage may be used in conjunction with manipulation techniques to affect healing on the soft tissues and joints.

Chiropractic treatment encompasses an understanding of how the bones, muscles, ligaments, joints and spine all interrelate to one another and using that information to formulate a treatment plan that allows the body to heal itself.

Chiropractic treatment centers on natural healing with emphasis on the nervous system and its relationship to health as its primary treatment. It’s not that chiropractors don’t “believe” in drugs, it’s that we know that your body will heal itself if given the proper chance and the help it needs to repair itself naturally. This approach generally produces better, longer lasting results without the side effects associated with drugs.

Stretching and strengthening exercises, vitamins, herbs, and homeopathic remedies are often used to assist the body in reestablishing balance and vibrant good health.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, first class medical care is a must and should be a part of everyone’s health planning. Heart attacks, strokes, disease all require medical intervention. HOWEVER, if you take care of your body utilizing Chiropractic and other natural methods of healing such as Acupuncture you will live a healthier and more vibrant life and hopefully avoid what medicine has become so good at which is “sickness care”.
