This is a very advanced and effective technique performed by Dr. Noah Segal here at Care Wellness Center in South Florida. Bilateral Nasal Specific is an advanced balloon assisted cranial adjusting technique that is used in the treatment of various neurological and structural disorders. The objective of BNS technique is to induce mobility in the cranial system – specifically the sphenoid bone – with the purpose of facilitating normal cranial respiratory function.

The technique is performed by carefully inserting tiny balloons into the nasal passages, then quickly inflating them into the nasopharynx (throat) before removal, to mobilize the cranial bones. It feels very similar to the sensation experienced when one jumps into a swimming pool and gets water up their nose. The whole procedure takes about 2-3 seconds and it can consist of a series of treatments over a period of time.

Dr. Segal’s technique is an offshoot of the original BNS technique as taught by Dr. Richard Stober in the 70’s and 80’s. He performs a modified version of Dr. Stober’s technique intended to be less aggressive and more tolerable, in addition, incorporating SOT procedures and diversified adjusting techniques for a more complete treatment protocol. Patients who seek BNS treatment are usually people who have been through extensive medical testing or treatments and are looking for an alternative non-drug/non-surgical approach to wellness. Most of these people have suffered a great deal and are tired of being sick and/or drug dependent.

To understand how BNS works, it is important to know that the skull is not one solid bone. Rather, it is made up of 22 individual bones that join together and move every time you breathe. It is the contention of Dr. Segal and those that practice this technique that cranial respiratory motion associated with inhalation and exhalation is imperative to normal body function and overall health.

This is because all other body functions depend on a properly functioning nervous system for control. Sometimes cranial bone movements, although miniscule are impaired and cause abnormal pressure on the brain or surrounding structures. This impedes the flow of cerebral spinal fluid throughout the brain and spinal cord, which alters the function of the nervous system and directly affects normal body function. Beyond this, the simple mechanical action of the treatment against the soft tissue of the nasal passage can facilitate sinus drainage, improve breathing, and relieve sinus pressure.

Most disease processes start out as functional disorders – long term dysfunction eventually gives rise to disease and symptomatology. Our contention is that the majority of functional disorders in the body are either neurological or endocrine (hormonal-glandular) in nature, or both. These two systems comprise the complete control centers for the entire human body.

The sphenoid bone is the primary structural component of this neuro-endocrine system. The pituitary gland which is the “master gland”, sits right on top of the sphenoid bone in a little saddle called the sella tursica. Proper respiratory motion of the sphenoid bone is necessary for normal pituitary-hypothalamus function, as well as acting as a pump mechanism for cerebral spinal fluid involved in the cranial meningeal systems. An aberration on this level has adverse somatic (musculo-skeletal) and visceral (organs) effects throughout the entire body and recent research has shown this could be the cause of many human diseases.

alternative-sinus-congestion-treatment-margate-floridaAberrations of the cranial system are very common and some of the different causes may surprise you. Excessive force during the birthing process, use of forceps or suction extraction during delivery, innocent bumps to the head and face, conventional orthodontic procedures (braces), drug use, whiplash injuries, severe head trauma, etc.

Cranial aberrations can be detected by your doctor but there are also easy at home ways to notice them, if you look. Check for facial asymmetries such as, one ear lobe lower than the other, one eye wider than the other, nostril differences from side to side, nasal deviations, or one side of the jaw moving more or less than the other. All of these are indications of cranial problems which could eventually give rise to functional disorders and degenerative changes in your body.

Dr. Segal combines his specialty BNS technique with lifestyle recommendations, holistic chiropractic care, diversified adjustments and SOT protocols to achieve dramatic healing results with his patients.

“It is important to note that BNS is not directed at the treatment of any specific disease or disorder. It’s primary objective is to mobilize the cranial bones, unlock cranial fixations, open the breathing passage ways, facilitate cerebral spinal fluid flow, increase vascular flow to and venous drainage from cranium, and optimize brain function. This often times improves symptoms related to various neurological disorders.”
